Orem, UT - BYU Women overcame a determined and strong effort from Utah Valey University Women, to win the season opener on Saturday by a score of 33 - 14 infront of a crowd of 200 fans. The game was all tied up 0-0 towards the end of the first half when linebreak by Justina Grubb setup Jessica Peterson for the try underneath the posts. Peterson converted her own try to make that 7 - 0. A few minutes later, BYU moved the ball out wide to their wing Alexa Tenney who sprinted down the sideline to score. She would add one more try before the half. Jessica Peterson (Fullback) converted to make it 21 - 0 going into the break.
BYU decided to work it's depth in the second half, with new comers and freshmans taking the field for the first time. BYU scored two more tries with Alexa Tenney featuring a stellar MVP performance for the women in Navy and White Stripes. UVU added two late consolation tries in the second half which was converted.
BYU was led by a strong performance from wing. Alexa Tenney, backrow players Grace Taito and Sia Skipps.
