Provo, UT: BYU held off a strong second half surge from Vipers Women's Rugby Club to win the friendly encounter at Helaman Field, Sat October 15, 2016 by 31 - 29. The Cougars started off really strong in the 1st half with tries from Skipps, J Peterson, E Petersen and Arnold. Fullback J Peterson converted 3 of those tries to take BYU up in half by 26 - 5 in the half. BYU forward had an edge in the srum department and provided some quality ball for their back line.
Second half started with Vipers coming strongly with some dominating runs from a big and strong forward pack. BYU had to come up with some big tackles, to slow down a moving Vipers offense. Vipers scored 3 unansered tries to launch a good comeback to stay in the game. BYU extended the lead with a try in the corner to make it 31 - 17 going into the last 15 minutes of the game. Vipers would go onto to score two more tries towards the end, as time ran out on them.
It was a strong rugby performance from the Vipers women. The young BYU side had to be honest on defense and barely held on to win. Final score: BYU 31 - Vipers 29. BYU will travel to Ellensburg, WA next week Oct 21-22 to take on Central Washington University at home.
