Las Vegas, NV - The weather was at perfect 76° F as #4 BYU took on the might of #2 Lindenwood University at Silver Bowl Field #15 at 10.20am this past Friday March 3, 2017. There was a moment of feeling out as both teams surveyed strengths and weaknesses. Lindenwood drew the first points, as they scored 14 minutes into the 1st half. Lindenwood led 7-0 until BYU's Taito answered with a try in the corner to make that 7-5 at the 20 minute mark. Lindenwood would then scored again before the half to make it 15 - 5 going into the break.

A strong effort from the Lions in the second half saw them pulled away with 24 unanswered points. Lindenwood won 39 - 5. It was a good effort from the Cougars, but not enough to take down a solid Lindenwood side.

"We are happy to invest in that tournament, to gauge where we are," said BYU Coach Tom Waqa. "Lindenwood had a strong showing against us. They were solid across the board from number 1 to 23. The skill set, conditioning, and strength they posses is above most of the college teams I know. That's one of the top teams bar Penn State competing at DI Elite level. So we found ourselves having to really work on our basics. We had to adjust against SoCal - still lots improvements needed if we are to go far in playoffs."

BYU beat a Southern California select team 29-17 on Saturday with a much more improved effort.

Coming up for BYU is Utah Valley University on Saturday March 11, then New Mexico March 18 and then Southern Utah March 25. On April 8 the BYU Cougars will take on mighty NIRA DI Runner-Up Central Washington University.
